Gollie the Border Collie is about 8 years old. We adopted him from a local kill shelter, the day before he was due to be euthanized. He had been dumped there, along with his litter-brother, by a local "breeder", and he was terrified of people, cars, other dogs, being inside, being outside, being bathed, brushed, leashed, you name it.
It took a while, and a lot of work, but Gollie is a credit to his breed now, and a happy and well-adjusted Border Collie, friendly with people, dogs, cats, and just an all-around jolly fellow.
His breeder just dumped another litter of 6 9-month-old Border Collies into another kill-shelter, a few miles down the highway from the one they left Gollie in. They are as psychologically damaged and terrified of the world as Gollie was, and have virtually no chance of being adopted, except for the 2 that a local all-breed rescue pulled out to foster. All other "Breed" rescue organizations who've been contacted have not responded. |
